Shaun Collis’ passion for horse racing began much like many others, initially as a punter. However, his love for the sport deepened when he started working as a Stable Hand at Grenville Stud, one of Tasmania’s largest racing stables, several years ago. Witnessing the behind-the-scenes operations, learning about horse training techniques to optimize their performance, and understanding the unique characteristics of each horse provided Shaun with a fresh perspective on racing.
For the past eight years, Shaun has worked as an analyst, honing his expertise in the field. He has shared his insights on Tas Racing and SEN, and his articles, previews, and reviews on Tassie thoroughbred racing have appeared in popular form guides offered by bookmakers such as Ladbrokes, Neds, and Betfair. Additionally, Shaun has had the privilege of accompanying punters to corporate boxes, ensuring they have memorable VIP experiences. Through these diverse experiences, he has gained comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
Recently, Shaun has focused on horse ownership, particularly in Tasmania. Over the years, he has owned and raced around 15 horses. Notably, he guided VIP members into the ownership of the highly successful La Tigeresa, who achieved Group 3 placement and earned over $262,000 in prize money. Shaun’s current endeavour involves racing horses in Tasmania, which caught the attention of AFL stars Tom Lynch, Steven May, Mav Weller, and Dion Prestia. They have joined him as owners of an Alpine Eagle filly.
