min woo went onto the shortlist as a probable winner before the year is over when he played out of his skin to claim a share of fifth at the US Open.

It hasn’t happened yet, but Lee has taken a well earned break since the Open, and should be raring to go here. Odds of 17-1 look fair.

 Aaron Rai $23-1, 1 unit

It is tempting to back McIlroy, but a brutal reality makes his price a poor one: he’s played the Irish Open 13 times, won it just that once, and only has another two top 25 finishes.

Instead, back the Englishman Aaron Rai to get involved at the sharp end on his return to European Shores.

He’s spent the last two years on the PGA Tour and has impressed there.

Moreover, he likes playing between trees. 

His first win on the second tier in Europe was on a tree-lined course and so was his first win on the DP World Tour in Hong Kong.

His second very nearly was, too, when the runner-up in this event in 2020 at the parkland Galgorm Castle.

And his best result this year, third in the Canadian Open, was at the tightly wooded Oakdale.

Back him to go one better than three years ago with $25-1 available.

ROMAIN LANGASQUE $56-1, .5unit

• Five top-10 finishes in his last 10 starts demonstrate how well Langasque is playing and right now he is not only one of the best drivers and iron players on the circuit, but he’s producing some of the best stats around the green, too. Only with putter does he lack a red-hot performance but that club has pulled its weight often enough this year.

Last week’s fifth place in Germany was pound-for-pound his best performance since winning in Wales, but eighth place at the Belfry represents an equally strong pointer. These are parkland courses where his strong driving is a huge plus and it’s under such conditions that his second DP World Tour title will likely come.
