Tyrrell Hatton, a 25-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Hatton made the cut in 17 of 18 PGA Tour events this season, including seven top-10 finishes, and he finished in the top 15 in six of his final eight events entering the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Wyndham Clark $29-1, 1 unit
Watch out for Wyndham Clark. TPC Southwind sets up perfect for Wyndham. Who could forget that shot tracer on the 72nd hole at LACC? Memphis is a faders (left to right ball flight) paradise. Clark also ranks within the top 10 in par-4 scoring and bogey avoidance. His unbelievable short game and infamous putter get it done. Over his last 10 starts, Wyndham is winning by gaining 8 shots against the field, and his strongest gains have come on approach. The U.S. Open celebration is complete, and I think Clark is about to get back to business with a playoff win.
Scottie Scheffler $7.5, 1 unit
I am really keen on Scottie Scheffler this week noting that nine of the last 12 champions in the FedEx St. Jude at TPC Southwind led the field in strokes-gained tee-to-green. Scheffler is both the best driver and the best iron player on the PGA Tour this season, and his strokes gained stats are staggering. Over his last 50 rounds, Scheffler ranks No. 1 on Tour in SG: Total, Tee-to-Green, Ball Strikes, Off-the-Tee, Approach and No. 2 in Around the Green. His putting has held him back from more wins, as he ranks outside the top 50. Yet Scheffler has a staggering 15 top-10 finishes this 2022-23 season on the PGA Tour
